Sitter FAQS
How do I become a Birdie Sitter?
Simply download the Birdie Break app from the App Store or the Google Play Store, apply to be a provider and a member of the Birdie Recruitment Team will be in touch within the week!
Please note, you will be required to submit proof of the certifications and qualifications needed if we feel you are a great fit for the Birdie platform.
What certifications and documents do I need?
We require all of our sitters or Birdie blends to have CPR/Choking training as well as a clean Police Information Check.
Birdie tutors require a clean Police Information Check.
How do I pick up bookings?
With our Birdie App, you choose which open bookings you are interested in and available for according to your schedule. You submit your profile to the parent’s request so they know you are interested. You are able to edit your hourly rate according to each booking and submit a personalized message to the parent.
If the parent chooses to book you, you will receive a notification on your phone so ensure your notifications are on in your settings. Please check the app regularly in case you missed the message! You will receive an email once you are confirmed as well.
What signals the end of a booking?
It is your responsibility to enter the final start time and end time of a booking once the booking is complete. Simply open the app, click on the booking you are currently at and then click ‘Enter My Time’. Please ensure these times are accurate and verify them with the parent before submitting. If this is not completed, the parent is not charged, and in turn, your payment will not be deposited.
Please note, the parent is responsible to pay the minimum amount of time that you both agreed to.
Can I communicate with the parent beforehand?
Yes! It is Birdie Community Etiquette to contact the parent once they have booked you. Their number becomes visible to you in the booking details so please text and say hi!
Please remember to do so as it is a nice gesture and solidifies the confirmation process.
What if a parent asks to book me outside of the Birdie app?
We appreciate your loyalty and please politely decline. Ask them to submit their request through the app; you can then submit your profile to them through there. We work hard and expend many resources to develop the best provider team and to provide you with a platform to connect with many incredible families - at no cost to you to be on it!
As per our terms and conditions, if you book directly with parents that Birdie has connected you with, your provider status will be terminated and future action may be taken as per outlined in your signed independent contractor contract.
How do I get paid?
Birdie Break pays you for your time weekly by direct deposit into your bank account. Please do not accept money from the parents, except in the case that they would like to give you a tip. The parent’s credit cards are automatically charged upon completion of a booking.
How much do I get paid?
We provide pricing ranges for both our bookings more than 24 hours in advance and less than 24 hours in advance - as a Birdie Provider, you are an independent contractor and as such, are able to set your own rates within those ranges. These ranges are determined by market demand and national industry standards.
Please base your rates on your level of qualifications as well as knowing that rate might be a deciding factor on whom the parent chooses to book. The market may be competitive.
In the Birdie app, you have the opportunity to adjust your hourly rate depending on the details of the booking request you are submitting for. ie; 4 kiddos vs 1 kiddo.
Parents are charged in 15 minute increments.
You receive your full hourly rate and Birdie does not charge you to be on the platform.
Do I get a T4?
No, as an independent contractor it is your responsibility to keep track of your earnings and taxes owed upon them. We do not take deductions and therefore expect that you remit your taxes accordingly.
Where can I find more information?
During your interview, you will receive a lot of information and have an opportunity to ask questions. Please feel free to email us at sitters@birdiebreak.com with any additional questions or concerns. That’s pretty much it - have fun, be reliable, and always be engaged with the children through enriching, enjoyable, activities!
How do I delete my profile?
We will be sad to see you go but can definitely take care of that! In the app, under your profile, there is a link to remove your profile from the platform.
